This is me trying NOT to freak out that it's already May! As I sat with my kiddos today and we did our calendar activities, we counted how many school days we have left and the answer was ::gulp:: 23!!!!!! Only 23 more morning ceremonies with this group. 23 more days of recess. 23 more lunches. 23 more planning periods preparing all sorts of activities for these guys. 23 more days of hugs and smiles (sometimes, forced smiles when they're driving me crazy with their summer fever!) 23 more days to get done the 32487349584798 things I have piled on my desk to still get through! Enter panic mode!
May is always such a tough month because it's the final stretch to get through with assessments, squeezing in last minute lessons, preparing for report cards, assessments, reviewing previously taught skills, and oh ya, did I mention assessments? Because it seems like that's all I have planned for this month!
May is also bittersweet for me because it's the last full month I have with these kiddos before I pass them onto 2nd grade! There's so much to look forward to with summer right around the corner,(although in Las Vegas, it's come early with these 90 degree days already!) and one of my favorite holidays......Mother's Day! From a teacher perspective, I love seeing the joy my kiddos share when they talk about their mommies, the love they spread in the cards and letters they write to their mommies and from a mommy perspective, I LOVE the love my own little boys share with me on my special day. I know some people say Mother's Day and Father's Day are "Hallmark" holidays, but I soak them up and enjoy every single second of it! It's not at all about the fancy gifts or special surprises planned for me, it's just the excitement my boys show from the minute they wake up in the morning, knowing that the entire day is about spending time and showering mommy with love! Luckily for me, I get this love every single day, but for them it's just another reason to have a "celebration" in our house. And hey, usually it means some kind of chocolate for me, so how could I complain? :-)
Anyways, if assessments and end of the year things have your mind occupied and you've pushed Mother's Day to the back of your mind, allow me to assist you! At our school we do a special event the Friday before Mother's Day called "Moms & Muffins". It's exactly what it sounds like. Having muffins with mom. Before and after the muffins, the kiddos love to walk their moms around the school and show off their work. Parents love to check out their kiddos' work hanging on the walls, so I have designed an entire bulletin board craftivity for your kiddos to make that focuses on moms! Check out the preview below and click on the link below to snag your copy of the craftivity below! It's all laid out with templates ready to go, so all you will have to do is print, copy, execute, and hang! I guarantee your moms will LOVE it!

Off I go to the world of grading these assessments that have become my life!
Until next time,
Angie
