It's May?! Plus a Mother's Day Craftivity!

This is me trying NOT to freak out that it's already May! As I sat with my kiddos today and we did our calendar activities, we counted how many school days we have left and the answer was ::gulp:: 23!!!!!! Only 23 more morning ceremonies with this group. 23 more days of recess. 23 more lunches. 23 more planning periods preparing all sorts of activities for these guys. 23 more days of hugs and smiles (sometimes, forced smiles when they're driving me crazy with their summer fever!) 23 more days to get done the 32487349584798 things I have piled on my desk to still get through! Enter panic mode!

May is always such a tough month because it's the final stretch to get through with assessments, squeezing in last minute lessons, preparing for report cards, assessments, reviewing previously taught skills, and oh ya, did I mention assessments? Because it seems like that's all I have planned for this month!

May is also bittersweet for me because it's the last full month I have with these kiddos before I pass them onto 2nd grade! There's so much to look forward to with summer right around the corner,(although in Las Vegas, it's come early with these 90 degree days already!) and one of my favorite holidays......Mother's Day! From a teacher perspective, I love seeing the joy my kiddos share when they talk about their mommies, the love they spread in the cards and letters they write to their mommies and from a mommy perspective, I LOVE the love my own little boys share with me on my special day. I know some people say Mother's Day and Father's Day are "Hallmark" holidays, but I soak them up and enjoy every single second of it! It's not at all about the fancy gifts or special surprises planned for me, it's just the excitement my boys show from the minute they wake up in the morning, knowing that the entire day is about spending time and showering mommy with love! Luckily for me, I get this love every single day, but for them it's just another reason to have a "celebration" in our house. And hey, usually it means some kind of chocolate for me, so how could I complain? :-)

Anyways, if assessments and end of the year things have your mind occupied and you've pushed Mother's Day to the back of your mind, allow me to assist you! At our school we do a special event the Friday before Mother's Day called "Moms & Muffins". It's exactly what it sounds like. Having muffins with mom. Before and after the muffins, the kiddos love to walk their moms around the school and show off their work.  Parents love to check out their kiddos' work hanging on the walls, so I have designed an entire bulletin board craftivity for your kiddos to make that focuses on moms! Check out the preview below and click on the link below to snag your copy of the craftivity below! It's all laid out with templates ready to go, so all you will have to do is print, copy, execute, and hang! I guarantee your moms will LOVE it!

Check it out here if you need a quick idea for a May bulletin board!

Off I go to the world of grading these assessments that have become my life!

Until next time,
Angie

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have WINNERS!

Hi Friends!

I am SO excited to announce that the first major giveaway done on this blog was a success! It wouldn't have worked without Cindy Revuelto's new blog! I'm sure the name sounds super familiar to you because Cindy and I used to share this blog together but she has also created her very own blog! Don't you worry though, she will still be around this place helping me guest blog and fixing all the technological kinks I have trouble with! :-) Haven't checked out her new blog yet? What are you waiting for?!?!

Without further ado, here are the winners for our very first collaborative giveaway......drumroll, please!

And here are what you lucky winners are now the proud owners of!

Cindy has emailed all of the winners their lucky prizes, but if you haven't received yours, please let me know in the comments below!

This giveaway was so much fun, so I know we will be back with more!

If you didn't get a chance to win this time, but are interested in any of the units above, please check out our TPT stores, here and here

And for a little freak out/happy dance/panic attack moment, umm....how are there only 8 weeks left in this school year?! Every single year I feel like the year flies by faster and faster! I'm going to be sad to see my sweet little friends go up to 2nd grade, but I'm already proud of how far they've come. But just like every year, it's CRUNCH TIME! Time to take a look back and see what things still need some more attention. I'm interested to know....how do you spend your last few months of school? Obviously we all have school or district assessments to give for the end of the year, but is there anything you do (or a unit you use) to do a skills review at the end of the year?

And because my crazy brain is already thinking ahead, I'm working on some exciting new polka dot classroom stuff, so make sure you check back!

Phew. I'm tired now! Time to go enjoy my Sunday funday!

xoxo,
Angie

Are You Ready For Some Football.... I mean a Sale!

Hello Friends!

I don't know about you but I could really care less about football.  I really only watch for the commercials.  I know football enthusiast hate to hear that but I just don't understand the game.  I am excited for this sale going on though.  Have you heard!!!  A bunch of stores are having a sale on Sunday and some are even extending it onto Monday.

Our store will be on sale on SUNDAY and MONDAY so that you can take advantage of the sale because I know some of you will be hosting Super Bowl parties so I don't want you to miss out.  Just click on the link below to take you over to our store. Thank you so much Ashley Hughes for the button.

Here are some of the items you might want to check out while you are there.  Just click on any of the pics to head on over:

junie b. Mushy Gushy Valentimes      February Writing Journal Prompts    Literacy Circles for Primary Grades    Science Rock Unit     Polka Dot Reading Chunk Posters   B&W Editable HERO Book/Binder (Helping Everyone Remain Organized)

Hollywood Beanie Babies Strategies White     Polka Dot Beanie Decoding/Comprehension Strategies Posters     Hispanic Heritage Mini-Unit       Animal Research Fact Organizers

Here is our newest unit just in time for Valentimes Day (in the words of Junie B.)  My students have been loving this book.  Junie B. is always a big hit with my first graders but I felt like I wanted to do more than just read whole group.  With this unit students can do a character analysis.  They can complete comprehension questions after each chapter.  These questions are meaningful and also provide them with a place to draw and be creative while still focusing on the chapter they just read. My students are loving these questions and I am loving them because they short but meaningful so it can be done independently and quickly.  There is also a page to compare themselves to the main character.  The vocabulary page is also really helpful for my students and they love spotting the words in the book.  We have not finished reading the book but once we finish the book I cannot wait to complete the Junie B. craft.  I gave my students a sneak peak and told them they would be writing a valentine card from Junie B. to another character in the book and they are very excited.  After every chapter they change the person they want to deliver their valentine too.  I guess it depends which character was nice or stood out in the chapter.  Got to love First Graders!  Hope you enjoy this unit as much as I am.  Just click on any pic and head on over to our store.

PHEW!!!!  This was a jam packed blog post.  Thank you so much for sticking through it.  Hope you enjoy your weekend.
