St. Patrick's Day & Spring on the mind!

This 3 day weekend has been very much needed NICE! Yesterday my boys and I were able to enjoy our gorgeous Las Vegas weather...it was 73 in the afternoon and BEAUTIFUL! I was sitting outside soaking it all up and thinking about the months and units to come when I realized that we are now less than a month away from St. Patrick's Day! If you're stuck in a rut, or need some St. Patrick's Day activities, check out our TpT Store! Here are some snapshots of the goodies included in this unit:

While you're already preparing for St. Patrick's Day, don't forget that Spring will be just around the corner and here is a unit for that one, too! Check out our TPT store for a better preview of this one!

Hopefully these 2 units make your transition into Spring easier so you can enjoy more of it outdoors! :-)

Are You Ready For Some Football.... I mean a Sale!

Hello Friends!

I don't know about you but I could really care less about football.  I really only watch for the commercials.  I know football enthusiast hate to hear that but I just don't understand the game.  I am excited for this sale going on though.  Have you heard!!!  A bunch of stores are having a sale on Sunday and some are even extending it onto Monday.

Our store will be on sale on SUNDAY and MONDAY so that you can take advantage of the sale because I know some of you will be hosting Super Bowl parties so I don't want you to miss out.  Just click on the link below to take you over to our store. Thank you so much Ashley Hughes for the button.

Here are some of the items you might want to check out while you are there.  Just click on any of the pics to head on over:

junie b. Mushy Gushy Valentimes      February Writing Journal Prompts    Literacy Circles for Primary Grades    Science Rock Unit     Polka Dot Reading Chunk Posters   B&W Editable HERO Book/Binder (Helping Everyone Remain Organized)

Hollywood Beanie Babies Strategies White     Polka Dot Beanie Decoding/Comprehension Strategies Posters     Hispanic Heritage Mini-Unit       Animal Research Fact Organizers

Here is our newest unit just in time for Valentimes Day (in the words of Junie B.)  My students have been loving this book.  Junie B. is always a big hit with my first graders but I felt like I wanted to do more than just read whole group.  With this unit students can do a character analysis.  They can complete comprehension questions after each chapter.  These questions are meaningful and also provide them with a place to draw and be creative while still focusing on the chapter they just read. My students are loving these questions and I am loving them because they short but meaningful so it can be done independently and quickly.  There is also a page to compare themselves to the main character.  The vocabulary page is also really helpful for my students and they love spotting the words in the book.  We have not finished reading the book but once we finish the book I cannot wait to complete the Junie B. craft.  I gave my students a sneak peak and told them they would be writing a valentine card from Junie B. to another character in the book and they are very excited.  After every chapter they change the person they want to deliver their valentine too.  I guess it depends which character was nice or stood out in the chapter.  Got to love First Graders!  Hope you enjoy this unit as much as I am.  Just click on any pic and head on over to our store.

Informative Animal Research Reports!

Hi Friends!

Phew! I feel like I've hit the ground running without a single stop since we came back from Winter Break! Two weeks ago, my oldest little baby (cause we will ALWAYS be my baby!) turned a whopping FIVE years old so instead of doing the whole birthday party thing we planned a special trip to Lego Land in California for him! We had TONS of fun celebrating his special day and it's still hard to believe that I have a FIVE YEAR OLD!
::Funny side note, Cindy's oldest son ALSO turned five years old last week! Our boys are only 6 days apart AND they are both really good friends and even go to the same pre-school! While we're both a little sad our boys are growing up so fast, we're also both super excited to have our kiddos at school with us next year as they start kindergarten!

Anyways, now that I've gotten that out of the way, I wanted to share my new animal research organizers I vamped up! If you've bought our Animal Research organizers from our store recently, head on back over there to re-download the new and improved file! This busy first grade teacher was going through my stuff trying to find some animal research organizers when I remembered the file I made last year for this very unit! Last year I taught second grade and I wanted to change them around a bit for my busy little first graders so I whipped up some new "Research Notebooks" for animal research and added in some choices for cover pages, final draft pages, a Sources page and a Table of Contents page.

The first week we taught animal research we did it as a whole group and all studied the same animal. My kiddos became experts at the entire process in no time so we gave them a chance to choose their own animal to research and it's been all the buzz in my classroom these past 2 days! I cannot even tell you how many times I heard: "Mrs. Brown, I didn't know _______ lived in _______!" these past 2 days! It gives me those warm fuzzies to hear my kiddos so engaged in their own learning!

Here are some glimpses into the goodies:

If you're interested in this unit, check it out here!

I know Cindy has a FUN new unit coming up, so stay tuned to our blog and TPT store to check it out! You won't want to miss it! :-)

Love,
Angie

Martin Luther King, Jr. Connections & January Journals!

Hey Everyone -

It has been SO hard to get any creativity flowing this Winter Break! I've enjoyed every.single.second of being home with my two little loves! Nonetheless, it's time to start getting my mind back into school mode (I even set an alarm clock for the first time this morning just to make sure I still remember how to respond to it) !

I revised a unit I made last year for Martin Luther King, Jr. It's a fun little journal that allows your kiddos to make connections to MLK and his life.
You can snag your copy of this unit here. If you already purchased this unit from us, go back and re-download the new version of it!

While you're at our TPT store, check out our new January Journal Writing Prompts!

Well, that's all from me for now! Time to go make the most of the last few days we have left! :-)

xoxo,
Angie

Ringing in the New Year with a Sale!

Hello!
I hope you all had a great Christmas.  I spent it at home with my family.  This was the first year where I was in charge of the cooking.  I'm sure most of you are all OK with this but not me, see don't tell anybody but I am not a fan of cooking.   So I was a little stressed.  OK I was majorly stressed!  My husband worked all day that day so I had to watch the boys plus do the cooking.  So needless to say I was not feeding my Pinterest addiction that day.
My husband is Hawaiian so I decided to try to impress the family by making Kalua Turkey. Let me tell you it was one of the moistest and yummiest turkey I have ever had.  Everything turned out great and everyone was impressed.  Only problem is that I have now been designated the official Turkey cooker in the family.  What the heck!!!!  I didn't sign up for this.  Next time I am burning the turkey so I can go back to bringing paper goods and side dishes.  Ha!!!!  Just Kidding (maybe)

Well Anyways!  Just wanted to let everyone know that we are trying to start this year off right by having a sale.  Just click on the pic below

I also wanted to show you our new clip art set.  Just click on the pic to head on over to our store.

Hope you all have a Happy New Year.  Talk to you guys in 2013!

Cindy
